Obituary of James "Jimbo" Bryant Gilbert

 

James "Jimbo" Bryant Gilbert, age 58, of Lake Charles, Louisiana passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022. James was born October 4, 1963 to William Gilbert and Virginia Bruce Gilbert.

"Jimbo" was a native of Sulphur where he graduated from Sulphur High School Class of 1982. He graduated from Louisiana Tech as a Sigma Nu. Golf was a major passion of "Jimbo's" and he also enjoyed motor cross, traveling the world, and his Disney trips with his family. "Jimbo" was larger than life itself and was dedicated to anything he took on. He was a great leader, mentor and friend to many.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jill Hernandez Gilbert; children, Kennedi Maes and husband Logan, Haleigh Gilbert, Beau Gilbert, and Gray Gilbert; brother, Bobby Gilbert and wife Melissa; grandchildren, Maelynn Maes and expecting the arrival of Quincy Maes; in-laws, Saraphia Mayard and husband Blayne, C.J. Hernandez and wife Sherrill, Lance Hernandez and wife Lisa, Hope Benoit and husband Rodney; nieces and nephews, Seth Barrilleaux, Gavin Barrilleaux, Haden Hernandez, Hollis Hernandez, Luke Benoit and Libby Benoit.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and nephew Kade Gilbert.

The family will welcome relatives and friends on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Hixson Funeral Home of Lake Charles beginning at 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. until the procession leaves for the church at 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady Queen of Heaven at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be immediately following at Consolata Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Lance Hernandez, Rodney Benoit, Seth Barrilleaux, Gavin Barrilleaux, Haden Hernandez, and Luke Benoit. Honorary Pallbearer is Kade Gilbert.

The family would like to give a special thanks to Harbor Hospice for their compassionate care during his most difficult time.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations to be made to the Alzheimer's Association at act.alz.org in "Jimbo's" name.
