Eta Zeta Commander's Corner – Spring 2025 Edition
My name is Luke Hackney, HZ 1452, and I’m honored to be serving as the current Commander for the Eta Zeta Chapter of Sigma Nu. I’m excited to update you all on the many fun, impactful, and brotherhood-building events that have taken place over the past year. From one of our strongest rush classes to major philanthropic efforts and leadership development, the men of Eta Zeta continue to raise the bar.
Rush
This year’s rush was nothing short of historic. We successfully welcomed 56 new candidates into our brotherhood—one of the largest classes in our chapter’s history. This incredible accomplishment is a testament to the hard work of our rush chairmen and their committee, who spent countless hours identifying and recruiting men who embody the values of Love, Truth, and Honor. The energy and enthusiasm from this new class have already made a significant impact on our chapter, and we’re excited to see what they will accomplish in the years ahead.
Philanthropy – Habitat for Humanity
Eta Zeta has always been committed to service, and this quarter we continued that tradition by raising over $4,000 for Habitat for Humanity—once again placing us among the top philanthropic contributors on campus. Our events included a campus-wide car wash and food-serving events that brought both fun and purpose to our cause. We’re proud that our efforts will help provide affordable housing to families in need, and we’re grateful for the alumni and community support that helped us reach this goal.
Social Events and Exchanges
Brotherhood and camaraderie were in full swing during the winter quarter as we hosted multiple social exchanges with Kappa Delta, Sigma Kappa, and Alpha Chi Omega. These events provided great opportunities to build connections across Greek Life and continue traditions of fun and friendship. We also hosted two standout date parties this winter: our cocktail party and our annual semi-formal—both of which were huge hits with our chapter and guests alike.
Leadership Development
In January, I had the privilege, along with our Lt. Commander Grayson Williams, of attending the Sigma Nu College of Chapters in Roanoke, VA. The experience was incredibly valuable—we gained insight and inspiration on how to lead more effectively and how to strengthen our chapter in meaningful ways. We’re eager to bring back what we’ve learned and apply it in the quarters ahead.
Looking Ahead
Fall and Winter have been nothing short of outstanding for Eta Zeta, and as we head into the Spring quarter, our calendar is already packed with exciting events, service opportunities, and continued leadership development. We’re proud of the progress we’ve made, and we’re confident that this momentum will carry us to even greater heights.
